E-Cheer: Epitaphs

When I first started my work career, I had a very responsible job
with over 400 people under me -- I mowed lawns in a cemetery.
You can learn a lot from epitaphs. Have you thought about what
yours should be?

The word "faithful" comes to mind. 1 Cor. 4:2 (niv) says, "Now it
is required that those who have been given a trust must prove
faithful." We who claim to be Christians have been given a trust --
to faithfully represent Christ to our own little world.

We should represent Him, not out of obligation, but out of joyful
want-to-gation (don't look for it in the dictionary). We serve Him
with gladness because we love Him -- that is true faithfulness.
"She (he) faithfully served God" would be a wonderful epitaph, but
it is one that has to be earned.

To faithfully and consistently serve God is the noblest of all
pursuits, and it leads to different paths for each one of us. We
aren't all preachers, teachers or singers, but we can all find our own
peace by being faithful in whatever ways are available for us to
serve Him.

I love walking in cemeteries because it reminds me there are those who have gone before. I like what you wrote, but I think there is more to it. For instance, I am reminded of the verse in Revelation that states we will have earned a name that will be given by God. I look forward to reading this one again.
