There was a sealed scroll in the Hand of God. What was in it was unknown. Only one who was worthy could open it. A mighty angel in loud voice proclaimed, “Who is worthy to break open the seals and open the scroll?” Who was going to do the world this great honour?

Heaven, earth and under the earth couldn’t provide a worthy candidate. It was beyond them. In this we find none WORTHY to take up the due praise, honour or glory. Because none of these three levels could provide a candidate it means that we are not WORTHY. WHO THEN IS WORTHY?

John wept and wept because none was worthy and he foresaw great loss. He saw a mystery hidden forever. He saw the loss of a great revelation. But glory to God One was found. An elder said to him, “Do not weep.” We need not weep because none on earth meets the criteria set in heaven. We need not weep even if no one can provide the help. We need not weep because we look doomed. We need not weep because an elder in the heavens has said, “Do not weep.”

“See the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” We need only to look to Jesus- the Offspring of Jesse, the Great Lion, the Man of Strength and Power, the Man who descended from David, the Man who said, “It is finished,” the Man who died and rose again. He is able. When we have no ability He is able. When we don’t qualify He does. When we think we are lost he is not. He is able to open the scroll and its 7 seals. When we were lost as to who would open HE IS ABLE. Why? It is because He is worthy.

John saw a Lamb standing in the center of the throne. It looked as if it had been slain. But the Lamb was alive. He had the power to stand in the center of the throne. He knew that it was where the scroll was and He took it from god. He was the able One- the Perfect candidate.

When He had taken it the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down before Him, each with golden bowls full of incense (the prayers of the saints). They reverenced Him as they recognized a higher authority. They knew the answer to the prayers stood before them. And they sang a new song.

Worship births new songs. When we see a new angle or side of God a new song is birthed in our spirits. It was a song birthed in unison. No one did a solo project, it was a group project. Each moved in the same spirit and as such they sung a new song, not songs:

You Are worthy to take the scroll
And to open its seal
Because You were slain
And with Your blood
You purchased men for God.

From every tribe and language
And people and nations
You made them to
Be a kingdom and priests
To serve our God
And they will reign on the earth
Forever and ever Amen

The song spoke of the worth of Jesus and Who He is- the worthy One- who did what no one else has been able to do- to unite a cross section of humanity and cultures o one place and bring them into a kingdom. Who is worthy to receive such glory except Him who has done such things? Is it not fitting that God be given the credit for such a time as this? Glory in the highest!

John looked up and heard the voice of myriads and myriads of angels encircling the throne, the four living creatures and the elders. They took over from the new song, singing in loud voice their own version:

Worthy is the Lamb
Who was slain
To receive power and wealth
And wisdom and strength
And honour and glory and praise

The new song sparked off worship. When we know Jesus is worthy it must turn up the tempo of worship. Worship has a ripple effect. It was the four living creatures and the 24 elders who started it but it was the millions and billions of angels who added to the song.

As if that wasn’t enough, every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, in the sea and its inhabitants started singing:

To Him who sits on the throne
And to the Lamb
Be praise and honour
And glory and power
Forever and ever

They all saw the One who deserved worship and all the effects of worship. It had to be given. It had to be released. Who wouldn’t have done so in an atmosphere that just said, “WORSHIP.” At the end of the song the four living creatures said, “Amen.” Let it be so that which all heaven and earth have declared.

The great song of heaven gave back to God true honour and its result was worship in the highest. The four living creatures said, “Let it be so” that which the song declared. And the elders worshipped. They were worshippers. When they saw the Lamb they fell down before Him. When their new song came to an end they stood up to marvel after the other two groups. But when “Amen” was spoken, they fell down and worshipped. Who did they worship?
“He who is WORTHY.”
