Poetry
Eat, Drink and be Merry
There was a certain rich man
Who had acquired plenty from the earth
But the thing that he was lacking
Was salvation from a new birth
One day he thought within himself
“What shall I do with my bountiful crop?
Why, I will tear down all my barns!
And build much greater than all, to top
There I will store all my earthly treasures
All the fruits and goods I’ve attained
I will say to my soul; Soul well done!
For many years thou shall be sustained
Now I shall take mine ease in this life
I shall eat, drink and be merry!
I have no worries now for nourishment
I shall enjoy life, slumber and tarry!”
But the God of Heaven said unto him
“Thou fool! Surely thou do not know
Thy soul is required of thee this night
Into outer darkness thou shalt go!”
Jesus told this story, and the moral is this:
All the riches of this earth will end
So without any treasures layed up in heaven
You are lost and desolate, my friend
First seek ye the riches found in God
Lay up for yourselves treasures above
Where moth nor dust doth ever corrupt
Where thieves won’t break in and steal of.
Therefore take no thought for your life
For God will supply all you require
Look first to Him for your treasures
Only He can fill your heart’s desire.
