Poetry
One Day
by Irene C. allen

The son I gave to someone else,
will look for me one day,
he'll ask me things he needs to know,
and this is what i'll say.
I love you son, I loved you then,
I never meant to hurt you,
they said that I was sick in mind ,
would never be good for you.
We had a baby shower at work,
they brought precious presents for you,
I felt such happiness that night,
didn't know i'd never know you.
I stripped and painted your baby bed,
filled your drawers with sweet new clothes,
put stuffed toys all around the bedroom,
your sister and we would know.
I even picked a name for you,
a handsome name indeed,
Lance Doyle Maples,
i'd have everything i'd need.
Before I knew it time had passed,
they came and took you away,
the hole you left within me,
hurting me to this day.
I love you son, I loved you then,
I never meant to hurt you,
they said that I was sick of mind,
would never be good for you.
Always follow your heart my son,
in the long run it will pay,
reach out to God, His Spirit find,
He'll guide you in His way.
