Faith
As I climb the steep hill of faith,
the muscles in my legs burning from the effort,
I recall a word not very old to me:
“Take the first step and I will set you
effortlessly
upon the hilltop.”
So I stop here.
I stop
and I breathe
and I believe,
resting in the Lord
and His love
for me.
I don’t know where this hill leads.
But faith renewed,
a refreshing cup,
and I see beyond the highest treetops
a rainbow,
a promise very old to me:
“What good father gives his son a stone when he asks for a fish?”
So I stop here.
I stop
and just sit in my boat,
floating among the fish
in the sea.
I’ll let him come to me.
I'll let The Breath of God
perform His own works.
I don’t need to walk on water.
Not for this one.
I know the Water Walker personally.
And if it is His will,
I will
walk out to Christ alone
upon the waters.
But for this,
for this,
I stop
and wait upon the Lord.
And upon this hill,
I shall but rest beneath the green tree
and wait,
wait for the goodness of my Lord in the land of the living.
And from within the Lighthouse,
(that is my Savior
and me)
I wait to see
the stairway restored
to its natural beauty
and to rest from within
the bedchambers
designed for me.
All
in God’s own time.
If a thousand years are but a day to Him,
what is forty-one
but a breath?
I do believe I can smell the scent of spices
filtering between the leaves.
Shine, oh Light,
from my upper room,
leaving scents of mountain rain
and promise
to drift across the sea
and lead him
to bank upon the shore
and strong foundation
of which my soul
is grounded,
where he will always be,
and where he will always be
kept alive
and well
by Living Waters...
my fish fresh from the sea.
Perhaps,
just perhaps,
the hill I climb
is a stairwell
of faith
and beauty
already restored
and in place.
Perhaps
I am exactly
where I am supposed to be.
So I stop here
and simply
believe.
Wherever this hill leads,
God is so very good
to me.
Perhaps this is
what it means
to walk in faith
upon the waters.
Bid me come,
oh Lord.
And keep my eyes
firmly set
upon You.
I stop here,
amazed by what I see
from this hilltop
made so graciously
just for me.
