Living on the Edge



Lord, I guess I must admit that
There are those certain days,
When it seems I might be headed
In far too many ways.

So many times I find myself
Thinking that life’s unfair,
But that's because my time with You
Has become far too rare.
.
And then at last I realize
It's me that turned away,
So I must not foolishly waste
Another single day.

For life is always best when I
Have it all in order,
And when I don't it seems as if
I'm living on the border.

On the edge of happiness but
With too much loss - no gain
On the brim of joy and peace
Yet feeling too much pain

So, Father, when I start to stray
Please, turn me back around,
And help me to remember where
My peace and joy are found.

They’re found right in the center of
Your perfect divine will,
But if I should e'er forget that
I'd be headed straight down hill.

That's why I'm asking - from now on -
To keep this wayward child,
Held in Your loving arms so she
Won't be running wild.
