Bread and Wine.

While the wedding guests at Cana were still thirsty,
Stone jars were slowly filled to the brim.
His word made water wine,
The plain became sweet and fine,
And unknown they shared in it with him.

While his many guests at Galilee were hungry,
Five small loves were broken then shared.
His word made bread for all,
Fulfilling each starving call,
Nourishing those who hunger had prepared.

While his supper guests squabbled , hungry for glory,
He broke a loaf and took Elijah's grail.
Handing each bread and wine,
His blood and body , as a sign,
One slid away to share his master's betrayal.

While his Guests at Golgotha saw him crucified,
The bread of life was broken , his wine flowing red.
Through sacrifice , beating and scorn,
And the twisted logic of twisted thorn,
He shared with no one the sins and pain we dread.

While disciples hid frightened in a small locked room,
He appeared showing wounded hands and feet.
His love so tangible and real,
Transformed their fears into zeal,
Then in his bread and wine were they replete.
