Sacrament

Knees resting gently on the altar step,
A silent preparation prayer I raise.
Ready to meet you , Lord ; Jesus,
As in hymns and liturgy of praise.

My hands receive the broken bread,
Lift it torn and jagged to my tongue.
Closing my teeth to break it , Lord,
As you were once broken and then hung.

Your warming touch is on my lips,
Even though the cup is ever cold.
A sting of alcohol reminds me of;
Briar crowned in bloody weave and fold .

Broken and shared in communion,
Your precious gift costing you dear.
As I give thanks for your sacrifice, Lord,
I know that you are truly here.

Redeemer of all bless me,
As I savour your holy meal.
Hold me in your warm embrace,
Let my sins all shrivel and peel.
Refresh the spirit that drives me,
With your wisdom , love and zeal.

Standing , I bow to the altar ,
A taste of your spirit in my heart.
I rejoice in the Eucharist around me,
Then with mission renewed , I depart.
