Grace before Deals
Said the rookie as he knotted his tie
The stocks are moving well up high
The boss will pat my back as sure you will see
The best employee of the year, this time will be me.
Smug in his newfound prosperity, he prepared for the day
With very little effort he will have his way
Then the first call came through and he let the phone ring
As he picked it up, he heard a chorus in the background sing.
A little voice spoke, stammering for words to say
Unhesitatingly, the rookie gave him the options to pay
Sir the stock market has never been better
Your profits will rise up to the letter.
The voice stopped and an awkward silence prevailed
The rookie asked him if he would like to make the sale
No, no the voice at the other end squealed
I am not here to make a deal.
The rookie sighed and asked “how may I help you sir”
The voice at the other end trembled, his words a blur
“My life I decided to end and have cut my wrist to bleed to death”
The rookie stood up and broke out in cold sweat
“Sir hold on, tell me where you are”, the rookie almost screamed
“I will call 911 and they will send out the paramedic’s team”
“I don’t want to be saved”, said the voice growing faint
“I called your number because it was listed as Peter the saint”.
The Rookie slapped his forehead, for he knew the typographical mistake
Peter De’Sant was his Christian name, and never once was the correction made
He straightened and focused on his now desperate appeal
Look said Peter “this is my deal”
“I am Peter the saint as you clearly read
And you have no right to be among the dead
The father above has asked me to help you live
For all your sins whatsoever, forgiveness give”.
Sobs were heard from the other end
“my life I can now never mend”
No said Peter, “nothing is lost
The Lord above loves you the most”
Said Peter with an urgency never before felt
“Tell me where you are, so you can be helped”
The paramedics found the man on the brink of death
But a peaceful smile played upon his face, as the paramedics he met
Peter sat down sobbing at his desk
This call would infact put his career at risk
But his soul felt elated and the pain within sealed
This was his life’s best made deal.
