God Knows the Plans for You
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. NIV
Someone asked me recently which verse was my favorite. I didn't have to think about the question even a moment before I responded with my answer. Jeremiah 29:11. Although there are thousands of beautiful and meaningful verses through the Bible, this one alone stands out in my mind. Why, you might ask? Because this verse is one that speaks to my heart immeasurably and reminds me of one of His most comforting promises.
There was a time in my own life, when I had recently been divorced and found myself struggling to raise a two year old daughter alone, when I found it hard to see how I was ever going to be able to make sense of my life again. The path I had chosen blocked before me, I couldn't see any other direction for my life or how its future might unfold. Frustrated and full of fear, I turned my troubles over to the Savior. Desperately waiting for an answer to my prayers, I couldn't quite understand why He couldn't just drop those answers down in front of me. I longed for a sign that everything was going to be alright.
Not long after giving my burdens to the Lord, I received just such a sign from Him. I was browsing through a Christian book store in the city when my fingers grazed the hard plastic of a keychain. Taking it in my hand, I looked at the pretty picture gracing the front before my eyes found the beautiful scripture written along beside it. "For I know the plans I have for you, 'declares the Lord,' plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" My heart quickened and tears came to my eyes; it was as if this particular verse had been written and handed through time just for me, just for that moment.
How good it is to know that He has everything under control even when we feel confused, unsure, and hopeless. When we've lost grip on the reins of our lives, He still commands the wheels on the wagon. The plans He has for us are so much greater than any we could possibly fashion for ourselves, we should never have a single moments worry to cross our minds. But we're human, and we all have times when our spirits falter and our faith is tested to its very limits. Those are the moments when we can claim this very special verse for our own. He has commissioned these words to be for all His children. He has specifically designed plans for each of us. Plans to take care of us. Plans for very bright and blessed futures. Plans that will renew our strength and give us hope in the everlasting.
Lord, I thank You so much for Jeremiah 29:11. There are many of us who might not have seen the other side of our valleys, no matter what form they took or how long they might have been, in our lives had we not had its promising words of love You sent us from Your heart. I pray that we all will remember in the times when we most need You, You are there. Unseen. Behind the scenes, working and orchestrating wonderful futures for us all in Your time. I Love You, Lord, and I praise You for Your faithfulness.
*Have there been times in your own life when you've been confused as to which way your life was headed?
*Have there been times when you've felt abandoned by everyone else around you?
*Memorizing scriptures such as Jeremiah 29:11 can help immensely when you're facing hardships or uncertainty. Try finding verses that speak to your own heart in special ways and memorize them. Then, when troubles arise, you'll have the weapons from God's word to combat whatever the world sends your way!
