A SMALL SPARK

The casualty of friendship being the preparation
Open hearts building a house of aspiration
From one stick to the next not placing condemnation
Truth in relationships without all the exaggeration.

Simple days of our lives taken to entertain
Innocence in the act lacking very little refrain
These moments keeping us from becoming insane
Happiness in life is our only request for gain.

Taking place in a yard around the grill
Not worrying about damage from what kids might spill
Getting closer to friends and neighbors being part of the thrill
The future disaster if known would bring an alarming chill.

During the night ambers glowing but hidden
Leaping to branches dried from the summer’s drought ridden
To the roof top covering those unsuspecting somberly sleep smitten
Things to hot to handle even by the best oven mitten.

By morning light everything is destroyed
Even though proper authorities were deployed
Miraculously life was not consumed but left dangerously void
Looking at the destruction wondering about the closeness of flames that toyed

Through the smoke and in the flames
Feeling the anguish and the shame
Wondering what was done and who is to blame
Not the News coverage most seek for fame.

So who is to blame for innocence leading to this bad mark
No one crying out and no one listening for a hark
No loud sirens or even the dog’s bark
ALL OF THIS BECAUSE OF A SMALL SPARK.
