Have You Prepared?
Today here in the Deep South is a cold dreary day. The blue skies have been replaced with a steel gray haze, and it’s littered with dark smoky clouds. The wind is finding holes in my armor, attacking from within my meager dressings. It looks like rain is coming, or maybe snow. I left the house without being prepared for the cold. Have you noticed in the last few years, that the weather isn’t as predictable as it use to be? We’re having unusually warm days in the north, hurricanes are becoming more frequent, and droughts have replaced the spring rains. Tornadoes are on the rise, we’re having them in places that rarely see them.
I use to have some understanding of the weather, but I see the understanding isn’t mine. I always have my garden planted before Good Friday, and it use to be fail safe. The spring rains would arrive just in time to blanket the ground, allowing the seeds to sprout and break through the hard crust. But in the last few years the rains didn’t come as expected. They arrived late; the lack of rain fall left the crops diseased and infested with worms and the sorts. If only the rains would have arrived on time and were more plentiful. Or was it something I was doing wrong? Did I prepare properly? Could I have enriched the soil better? Maybe I didn’t use enough fertilizer? Did I spend enough time in prayer prior to sowing the seeds? Did I seek the Lord to see which day I should plant?
I was so quick to play the “blame game” and accuse the rain for not being on time. The truth is we serve an on time God. He brings the rains in season; just as He brings the Holy Ghost rains for our growth. We, just as the farmer, must prepare before sowing the seeds into the lives of others. Studying His word daily is a perquisite before sowing. If this step is bypassed, you could be sowing a cancerous growth into the body of Christ. And this cancer can spread rapidly. We must be very prayerful before sowing, asking the Lord to guide us to the field He wants us to plant. Having the word living in you gives you the wisdom to know when the soil of the heart is prepared to receive the seeds of righteousness. Once the seeds are sown we must follow up with encouragement, this is the fertilizer of the soul. Just as the farmer has daily fellowship with his crops, we must be there with an out stretched heart and with our ears wide open.
I believe the body of Christ is in the shape it’s in today, because we fail to prepare, the Lord is constantly bringing the rains, but their can be no growth until the seeds are sown. And if we don’t care for the seeds after planting, the crops are going to be diseased and infested with the ways of the world. The storm clouds will come and go and the wind will blow, but healthy crops will be standing when it’s over. The harvest is before us. Do you want to reach 30, 60, or 100% of God’s children? We must be prepared!
