On the manger
Lowly and humbly
The journey to Bethlehem

In the dawn of firstlight
The darkness is dispelling
The dimness is lifting
The light we have needed has come

A world that is dark
A world that knows violence
Is so badly in need of peace
A world that knows
Souls that are broken and bruised
So badly needs wholeness and forgiveness
The Savior has come

A tiny precious baby
Come to save the world
Come to save us
A tiny precious baby
Who will one day shed his blood
For our life

The sheer joy
The amazing miracle
The promised one
Love so extraordinary

Emmanuel
God with us

The firstlight we glimpse at the manger
Turns into the glimmer that illumines our hearts
Then burns deeply within us as we are transformed
That fills the gracious space in us that once was empty
That starts in Bethlehem and beckons us to the cross

Because--Emmanuel--God with us
Changes everything
The promise has been fulfilled
A little child come to save us

We arrive at the astonishing
Presence of a God
Whose love is more extravagant
Than we could imagine

A God who never leaves us
