Mindful Worship

"And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. She hath done what she could : she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her." Mark 14:6,8,9 (King James Version)

This woman who anointed Jesus with precious ointment in the alabaster box was to be honoured down through history for this tangible display of faith and worship. Jesus was pleased that she had "done what she could."
Her act showed faith in present and future terms. In the present moment she recognized Jesus Christ as being worthy of such an act of worship and adoration. She was not anointing a mere man but the Son of God and Son of man. Looking forward by faith she acknowledged his mission of the cross for she "is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying."
The others could only see the superficial act but the Lord Jesus knew the motivation of her heart and commended her. Any act of love and sacrifice toward him does not go unnoticed by him. Others often do not grasp the interaction between ourselves and our Lord but as the fragrance of that costly ointment (perfume) filled the room where the others were, they had to notice that the atmosphere was changed, sweetened and elevated by that one selfless act.
