James 1:2-3
Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.
Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.
Throughout my life I’ve experienced tumbleweed – but it wasn’t until I moved to New Mexico that I began to full appreciate these dead weeds that tumble across the highway when you least expect it!
One thing I’ve noticed is some of them are very large. I’ve also noticed that they can be frightening if you happen to be cruising at the speed limit and one bounces across the road! Encountering tumbleweed can be startling!
Nevertheless, I’ve never encountered tumbleweed that caused major damage (other than an increased heart rate). They’re actually very dry and brittle and if you happen to face one head on – the average car would never know the difference. They may look fierce but when confronted, simply crumble!
So it is with our daily walk with Christ! We may be cruising down Victory Highway singing praises to the Lord and out blows tumbleweed. Your heart rate increases, and maybe you swerve to miss it – for a split second it seemed life was taking a turn for the worse. Then you realize it was just tumbleweed! You look in your rearview mirror and see the remains of dead weed blowing in the wind and you breathe a sigh of relief!
In all of our lives things cross our paths – situations and incidents! We can lose it or we can maintain control – which comes through a consistent diet of the Word and a relationship with God! We will always encounter tumbleweed – that’s just life! Maybe your tumbleweed is your finances or your spouse. Maybe it’s your job or your kids! Tumbleweed is known by many names!
Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.
The longer you are in right relationship with God and grounded in His Word the easier it is to encounter tumbleweeds!
Jesus, thank You for teaching us through Your example and the Word that life is full of tumbleweed known by many names! You told us there would be hardships and trials but that everything works together for good to them that love the Lord! Lord, we will admit – sometimes things take us by surprise – and the old nature appears – we begin to worry and fret – fear sometimes grabs a hold! Forgive us Lord! We also as that You continue to grow us! We want to mature through You so that when we do encounter these tumbleweeds of life we are able to respond in faith and truth and hope – nothing wavering!
We ask in Your Name, AMEN

It's sure easy to forget (if only for a split second) whom the God is that we serve when tumbleweed jumps out in front of you. They're so much less threatening than they appear! "You look in your rearview mirror and see the remains of dead weed blowing in the wind and you breathe a sigh of relief!" Sis, I read that sentence and a joyful laugh rolled around in my belly. I have SO been there!! There is so very much encouragement in this article. Oh, I pray that MULTITUDES will see it and be encouraged by it!
