"Lord?"
"Hm?"
"Can I talk to Jesus, for a minute?"
"You are, child."
"I'm still uncomfortable about talking to the Holy Spirit.
I don't want to offend Him, or anything."
"I understand."
"You know, I was thinking about trying to explain the
Parable of the Ten Virgins to someone I know."
"Yes."
"Well, I don't think that person would understand it at all."
(Silence.)
"I mean, that person would say: Lamps? What lamps? What
are you talking about? What is this business with the oil, anyway?
Bridegrooms? Virgins? What does all this have to do with me?"
"I understand."
"Well Lord, I was trying to think of a more modern story, You know,
one which that person might relate to. Not that Your story isn't very
good! It is, Lord! It's just that....."
"Yes, child."
"So, first I thought about cell phones. Everybody's got one, now."
"I know."
"I thought about relating this parable to one person not carrying
his charge cord with him on a long trip, while his co-worker did. Something like that."
"Go on."
"Well, let's see. Suppose both people are told by their boss, that he's going to
call them at any minute during the trip?"
"And, I'm the Boss."
"Right! Exactly! But, they need to take that special cord with them that plugs into
their car cigarette lighter......"
(Grumble.) "Cigarettes."
"Oh yes, Lord. The thing is, everybody's got one in their car. Don't worry
about it. It's a twenty-first century thing. Anyhow, if somebody was going
on a long trip, they'd need the car lighter cord, and the other one, too."
"How many cords are in this story?"
"Perhaps, this is getting too complicated. Oy, how long did it take You to come
up with that story, anyhow?"
"Not very long."
"Well maybe, You could give me some ideas, You know, Lord, when You have
the time. It's not that important."
"Excuse Me?"
"Well, yeah! You know, Lord; there's just all this technology
today. I mean, this particular person could start arguing with
me about why couldn't their boss just send them an email, later? Or,
You know, the boss could also fax them at the hotel, or something?"
"I don't send faxes."
"Hm. Yeah, and then, there's always those Blackberries. But, I
don't understand them. Maybe, I could relate it to running out of
ink on your printer? I guess that might work. You know, with this
Dell printer, you have to order it special and ............."
"Why don't you just open My Word, again, and read it?"
"Yeah okay, Lord! That's a good idea! Goodnight!"
"My Word, child."
"Okay, Lord. I'll get off my computer. 'Night!"
"
