Storms tend to cause a fear to settle in, especially when you live in certain parts of the country where storms rattle things around – namely houses and such!
But have you ever given any thought to the benefit of storms? Have you ever thought that storms could possibly uncover beauty?
Yesterday we had a fierce storm sweep through the area. When it was over and the sun began to shine, I took a hike through the canyon. Although I ended up with several pounds of mud to my ankles, I also found some spectacular stones and pottery.
As I was picking up these broken pieces of pot, the thought struck me as to how the rain had washed away a surface of dirt and mud (which happened to now be on my shoes) leaving a spectacular prize.
As I turned several pieces over, I began to compare my life to the pieces of broken pot. Scattered hither, thither and yon. At first I blamed the storms for breaking me – causing me to shatter in so many pieces, but as I look back I see it was the storms that created the person I am today. It was the storms of life that brought the rain, so the pieces could finally be found and put back together.
The newly collected pottery is scattered across my kitchen table and it is evident I don’t have a whole pot, but I have beautiful pieces. I am so thankful that our faithful God found all of my broken pieces and was able to put me back together. The rain of the Holy Spirit uncovered the brokenness and the touch of the Master’s hand left nothing undone!
I am a work in progress, and I understand better After the Storm has settled that there is always a purpose!
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater.
Jehovah it is in the midst of the storms that we do not always comprehend what is happening. It is After the Storm that we see there was a purpose. It is in the midst of the storms that we often feel shattered, but it is After the Storm that the mud and the muck is washed away and the pieces are gathered to complete your purpose! Lord, help us to be thankful in the mindful of you in the midst of the storm, so that After the Storm we continue to become the vessels of praise and honor and glory for your names sake! We ask in Jesus name! AMEN!
