Fixed and Steadfast

Psalm 57
(Amplified Bible)

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is steadfast and confident! I will sing and make melody.

Psalms 57 is a record of David’s thoughts when he fled from King Saul and found refuge in a cave!

David pours out his soul once again, reminding Jehovah of His Word! Hunkered in a cave, he pens the words, be merciful and gracious to me, O God, be merciful and gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed.

Even in life threatening situations, David understood the necessity of calling out to God! It wasn’t a time to give up! It wasn’t a time to throw in the proverbial towel, but rather a time to cry out to God BE MERCIFUL AND GRACIOUS UNTO ME!

Have you ever been there?

He recognized that it is God and God alone that would spare his life! In the darkness of the cave, where many of us would have given up, David lives out an example for us today; the only way to get through is to be fixed – to be steadfast!

We must be confident! We must know that God has not brought us this far to leave us – regardless of what is going on around us! We must hang on and plant our feet upon the ROCK!

He begins with a cry of mercy!

He ends this Psalms with a song of praise!

Awake, my glory (my inner self); awake, harp and lyre! I will awake right early [I will awaken the dawn]! I will praise and give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your mercy and loving-kindness are great, reaching to the heavens, and Your truth and faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be over all the earth. (vs. 8-11)

Jehovah sometimes it seems that we are running from cave to cave – there never seems to be a time of rest. It seems the enemy is dogging us in one way or another, continually! Lord, we cry out to you today, just as King David – Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. Lord we are so thankful that we can cry out to You for mercy! Lord, we are fixed today – we are steadfast today – we know that Your Word promises refuge in the midst of trouble and that even in the darkness of the cave, You are there! We lift You up today as the Lord of Lord’s and the King of Kings! We praise You among the heathen! We praise You in the streets! We magnify Your name! Amen!
