I gathered up all my riches and all my men
To build myself a city
There were houses and malls
And stores full of beautiful things
It took six summers and on the seventh I took a rest
I rested my people and gathered my thoughts
I came up with the perfect plan

I climbed to the top of a tower I had built
And I looked all around at the beautiful city I created
I had such a great view
Oh! Such a great view that I created

I sent out word that “a city was built”
And “anyone can come for free”
So people came from ocean to ocean
To see the great city I built
They decided to stay and live in my houses
And they shopped in my stores for free
They took off their hats when I walked by
And I would smile and shake their hands

I had such a great view
Oh! Such a great view that I created

Every dream I ever had came true
I was the happiest man in the world
But just when I thought nothing could go wrong
People would spit in my face and swear at my name
They made jokes about my life
And hated the few friends I had

It reminded me of a guy I know up in heaven
When he looks all around at the beautiful things he’s created
And he has such a great view
Oh! Such a great view that he created
