God’s Grace So Rich and Free
Philip. 2:13 (KJV)
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
Just a little over a week ago a very good friend and I had gotten in an augment where we both were yelling at each other and said some hurtful things to each other. We had known each other for about fifteen years and he had done a lot for my family in his time he had been with the city. Usually when the two of us disagreed with each other we would call the other later after a meeting and iron it out. This one day John had had all he could take of me fussing over problems and he felted that I wasn’t being gracious for what had been done for us and he laid into me at the meeting.
After the meeting I had a hard time getting in touch with him since he had exploded his bosses would not allow him to contact my family while he was still with the city. All week long I had been praying that God would mend broken fences and allow us to work it out. I had been told things that really upset me that John was being fired from the city. I was carrying a burden that really should not have been on my shoulders. Many times in prayer I begged God to please allow us to get into contact. One night in the still of the night I woke really upset over the disagreement and called his voice mail and left a message that told him everything that was on my mind and thanked him for all he had done for my family along with letting him know that I had wronged him. The peace I had after leaving that message helped me to go back to sleep and sleep peacefully the rest of the night. Yes I still hurt in the morning and begged God to please work out the problem with John unaware that God had moved John to call his voice box a day after he had left the city for good and it moved him to write me a letter and letting me know that he was not angry with me any more.
John assured me in the letter that he wasn’t angry with me and that he cared for my family and it had hurt him that we were so ugly with each other. We had both lost our testimony in that meeting among unbelievers that day. Yet God was working on us from that moment on for the next week. God’s grace to us was so free and rich. We were able to pray through the pain and when we did talk to each other we were able to look back on our friendship over the last fifteen years and see how God had blessed us so much.
Even to us talking on the phone was God working in our lives and making every detail work out. John is a DJ with a local radio station and he was training another person to take his place. Last night was going to be his last night at the radio station and he was not going to be on air. God worked it where the other person had to take a break and he had to go on air. The only time he was on air I heard him and realize he was there at the radio station. When I called him at the radio station John and I talked for an hour working out our differences. We laughed and cried over different things. I have to say that when I thought God was not going to work it out for us to be in contact again I was sad. Yet God was working on both of us. He was working to bring us together at just the right time where we both would see His hand in our lives. I also realize while talking with him that he was hurt that I was giving up and not wanting to go on with life. Sometimes God uses some one that is close to us to tell us what is wrong in our Christian walk. I had to be hit over the head with a four by four to get the picture. We both learn over the week of God’s unfailing LOVE and GRACE so RICH and FREE. We learn what true forgiveness was in the mist of it. Now how GREAT is Our Lord?
Thank you lord for when we sin against each other showing us Your love and grace. Help us not to take others for granted and to be thankful for what we do have and not griping at what we don’t have. Help us to have a loving heart toward every one we come in contact with. IN CHRIST, AMEN
This is written in honor of John Lewis that has taught me a lesson and still loves me even when I goof up. Love you John! Most of all I thank the Lord for His grace He has shown me over this past week.
