Short Stories
It was 2006 a baby was born named Kaiya; her parents had no jobs and were forced to place Kaiya in an orphanage called Hokkaido. The women their took the child in, soon they got a call from an American agency with a family wanting to adopt a little girl, quickly the women told them of Kaiya, and how she had come to be with them. Many months the American family processed what seemed like endless paper work with both governments, they knew in the end it would all be worth it. The day finally arrived when they were to go pick up Kaiya, the flight was long and bumpy. Finally the plane touched down in Sapporo, Japan it would still be many miles before they reached Hokkaido. The sun was growing dim, and the anticipation grew and grew. The Clare family was overwhelmed with so much; the only thing that kept them awake was the joy that soon they would be parents. The young couple knew from day one, that they wanted to adopt a little girl from Japan. Soon they pulled up to a great big building where they would meet their translator, and began the last leg of getting their little girl. They walked up the approach slowly, taking in every moment they could. They rang the bell, a young man opened the door and greeted them hello in Japanese. Hello was one of the few words they understood. He showed them the way down the long hall into a small room, where a young woman greeted them in English, in addition asked them to be seated. She began to explain what they need to do in order to finish up the paper work to begin their new life. Finally after what seemed like hours, she told them it was time to go to the orphanage. They drove down many dark streets to an undersized house, at this time the excitement was almost too much to bare. As they looked out the car window at the house, they saw many smiling faces glancing out at them. The translator helped them from the car, and knocked on the door as the door opened, the translator explained who the Clare’s were. The women stepped aside, there lying in a small crib was a little tiny baby girl, their baby girl, Kaiya. The women of orphanage picked up the baby girl and tenderly handed her to Mrs. Clare saying, “Okaa” which is the Japanese word for mother. They placed her in Julia’s arms; mother she thought to herself, wow I’m a mom. Her wildest dreams had come true, Julia and her husband David gazed into the baby’s eyes, this was their little girl. The eldest women asked them what they would call her, they replied Kaiya Inez Clare, which means Forgiveness and meek. They wanted her to keep her original name, and the Lord has showed them that she was to learn to forgive her birth parents, and that she would be meek and humble, Inez was also a family name. They said their good-byes and got back into the car with Kaiya in their arms. The translator dropped them off at the hotel and pulled away. They found their room, and they stood with Kaiya in their arms. David dropped to his knees and began to thank God for the wonderful blessing. The rest of the night they sat and just held Kaiya close, for this was the greatest moment in both of their lives.
