BUBBLIN' OVER WITH BUBBLES
Every September for the past three years, our family has had a reunion: daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Tony, children Kirk and Vivianne from Wisconsin; son Mack (wife Sharon teaching) from Charleston, SC; ex-wife Virginia and her husband John from Mt. Pleasant, right across from the NEW BRIDGE at Charleston. Virginia, who is a superhostess, rents a condo at Table Rock resort in Pickens County. Only 15 miles from the log cabin, I drive back and forth each day, usually home at night to see the last few innings of the Red Sox games. (big yea for satellite TV).
Activities abound. We pass on the golf, though. The golf course is adjacent to the condos. Kirk and Jennifer like to find the little white golf balls (hit up on the roof sometimes!). Bicycling with Kirk. I know you are laughing ha. But I can still ride a bike with the worst of them. Horseback riding: did that too! Although I must admit it was an Appaloosa walking horse. It was not a good follower, bent on side trips here and there. Horseshoes, badminton, chalk-coloring on the sidewalks. Our yearly hike to the waterfalls was lots of fun. Can you see Kirk using a walking stick, mirroring his old grandpa? One day they drove over here to the log cabin for lunch: clam corn chowder or chili spaghetti anyone? Reading with the grandchildren was a pleasure.
One of the simplest activities can become the richest of treasures. Mack brought 6 bottles for bubble-blowing with him. To the back porch we went. Kirk, 8 now, mastered the art quickly. Then he learned to blow slowly and smoothly, making some really big bubbles. Vivianne, 3, would watch Kirk and go phttt. Nothing. But she kept trying. Then there was one bubble, maybe two. Soon she was producing a stream of tiny bubbles at a time, 20 or 30 it looked like. An orchestra of cheers and giggling followed from the audience, but we couldn't out giggle Vivianne and Kirk After that, whenever we had a break, Kirk and Vivianne headed for the back porch to blow bubbles. The sparkle in their eyes and the smiles on their faces are forever memories for me. You could say the condo was BUBBLIN' over with bubbles!
The word "BUBBLE" or "BUBBLING" does not appear in the Bible. A latter days technological advancement, I suppose. Let me submit some similar words: "JOY, JOYOUS, JOYFUL, DELIGHT, DELIGHTED, REJOICING." The Bible is absolutely packed full with these words. And why not? This is one of God's most precious emotions...happily ingrained in the hearts of those who bear His image:
"Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and REJOICED: for God had made them REJOICE with great JOY: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the JOY of Jerusalem was heard even afar off." Neh 12:43. KJV. The occasion: God had engineered their return from captivity and the wall around Jerusalem was rebuilt.
David speaking, "You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with JOY in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand." Ps 16:11. David, a man after God's own heart. I Sam 13:14.
"After they had heard the king (Saddam-like Herod), they (the Magi) went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they were OVERJOYED." Mt 2:9,10. God engineered that one too!
"When He (Jesus, after the Resurrection) led them (the disciples) out to the vicinity of Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshipped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great JOY. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God." Lk 24:50-53.
Described in Acts 1:9-11, "After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 'Men of Galilee,' they said,'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus , Who has been taken from you into heaven, will COME BACK in the SAME WAY you have seen Him go into heaven.'" No wonder they had great JOY!
A sure shot source of true JOY: "To Him Who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great JOY---to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty. power, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. Jude 24.
JOY, BUBBLING OVER is anchored in the Lord Jesus Christ.
