I was gently sown to earth
By my Master’s loving hands;
Of life-giving waters, there was no dearth
Freely, bountifully, He watered my land.

From scorching sun, He sheltered me
Shaded by His faithful presence;
From howling winds, He let me be
Strong and steady, He was my defense.

Bathed in His mercy, nurtured by love
I spread my branches, far and wide;
Proud shelter for many a dove
From hunter’s weapon, as they flee to hide.

‘Twas a calm and peaceful morn
They came to lay the axe on me;
Oh! Will I, a king’s palace, adorn?
Or, a merchant’s ship, at ocean be?

Nay! Nay! Sorrow filled my heart
As they bade me be a Cross;
To Golgotha, was I to depart
Through hills and valley, together, we pass.

My soul grieved and cried aloud
Oh! Woe unto me, my Master bleeds!
The soldiers around, they jeered and bellowed -
Oh! King of kings! Wherever art thy miracle deeds!

My Master’s hands were nailed to me
Wholly bathed by His precious blood
Oh! Foolish world, shame on thee -
You think, you sent Him to the world of dead?

He whispered softly unto me -
Grieve not, O faithful one;
Together, you and Me, shall be –
A triumphant ladder unto heaven!

I love it! "He whispered softly unto me - Grieve not, O faithful one; Together, you and me, shall be – A triumphant ladder unto heaven!" Would that we ALL turned every cross we carry into a "ladder unto heaven!" Beautiful! :)
