Once upon a soldier,
In a freedom-governed land
With liberty and justice
For all of those who stand
Upon the golden shores they're offered
By other soldiers' hands,
A call was laid.

Once upon a soldier,
In a far and desperate land,
Surrounded by the enemy
And miles of burning sand,
With fallen comrades 'round him
And another thwarted plan,
Dark fear was laid.

Once upon a soldier,
In a military land,
Surrounded by the men and women
Rescued by his hand,
And, by his brave and selfless actions,
Granted one more chance to stand,
A badge was laid.

Once upon a soldier,
In a proud memorial land,
With 21 guns sounding off,
Saluting his last stand,
His quiet strength now silenced
By the enemy's dark hand,
A flag was laid.
