Humor
Last summer, my husband and I had a really pleasant vacation day. (There have certainly been others, but I'll concentrate on this one.) We ate lunch at a nice little Italian place, considerably better than our usual Top Ramen. This cute little place had a cute, even itty-bitty, little parking lot. Since we got there long before noon, we had the entire lot to choose our space. Having no schedule to keep that day, we took our sweet time with lunch. Two hours later, as we walked to the parking lot, behold, it was as stuffed to the brim with cars as we were with linguini. And our car was completely surrounded -- there was the brick wall in front of us, and thousands (okay, dozens) of vehicles beside and behind us.
My peacefulness hit the pavement. "How are we to get out?" I wailed to my spouse. My mind was running furiously, trying to concoct an immediate cure. I could go back into the restaurant and call for those other inconsiderate people to come out and move their cars. Or I could perch on the car horn. Or I could fetch people off the street to do my bidding. Needless to say, between the 94-degree day and my food-addled brain, I wasn't functioning at all well. Finally, we realized there was an almost unnoticeable "valet" running around in the midst of the cars, moving them around, one by one. With great professionalism, he rearranged every single offending vehicle out of our way, and then pointed the direction of our escape from parking lot hades.
Once we arrived home, where it was cool, comfortable, and devoid of cars, I thought the Lord might appreciate it if I confessed my improper thoughts and behavior. I did so, and then picked up my Bible and began leafing through Psalms and Proverbs. Immediately, Proverbs 16:9 leapt off the page: "The mind of a man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." How obvious is the Lord! That day, He provided me with a living "parable" of the way He daily works in my life, quietly and expertly.
