THE ‘MORROW THAT PASSED YOU BY
Every today will be yesterday
About yesterday was no tomorrow
For all of the ‘morrow undid yesterday
Yet no yesterday ever shall be tomorrow
See, fellow, see…
Nature’s darling course is set never to repent
Why then won’t you the former times relent
Each dying of daylight ought lie with their dead
And if there be life in them, will tomorrow resurrect
What the heck…
Forget the ‘morrow that passed you by
Its wiles never let their reviving be your work
It shall again the ‘morrow kill, take my word
With an ill-fate ‘tis that ol’ braggart bully
Which with but bitterest hands bushwhack brutally
Each trajectory your lone driftings oft find –
O What design so fair and fine
When you sincerely seek a sail across the seventh sea
Save the zest… he’s no good
See…
About the hour midnight was spent - and for good
Himself did rouse from the ashes in the mist
For sure bested by a cousin simmering shine
Enthralled with her neat knight gown
The very kind she drape her starlets in
Wishing their little lights never may dim
Howso, at the crack of dawn
Her spell is pawned
(Soon to live another day)
And a new day is born
That we be kings or pawns
Emperors or idiots
That we kiss a dream utterly
Or neglect becomes our eternal ally
So I say forget the ‘morrow that passed you by
See…
Dribble your hands through many flurry drops
And know no wetness all you can
But Si, of this be certain
As twilight waylay daylight after daylight
So shall your flight know the ditch of night
Unless your heart someplace else be found
Save the left-half of your breast
But amid all the twirls – dealt of faith or fortune
A priceless thought holds true:
Time and season happens to all
Man, beast; grand and small
But you, O you, will make them what you will
For in you and you alone lies the traverse of your years
That you be king or pawn, emperor or idiot
So choose, I pray, to walk the fine line however forced
For why suffer the soul unto the morrow’s sorrows
When the lone wineskin from which we all drink
Lathers unsullied with the spanking morning brew
Even now that our new found teeth
Is yet upon the free fresh feast
Shhh..., quiet now and I’ll tell you this once more
She came to me tonight too, the silver-tongued crow
Who perched upon their tall thrones
And sweet-talked them to heights they once feared
She whispered what she did in their now deaf ears
Jomo and Kwame, Martin and Marcus, Hagin and Kuhlman:
All men are but same, doubtless where they forty winks
A man may maul a monkey, another a neighbour’s donkey
But you and you alone will make life what you will
