Grief
How do you feel about starting over
By Chaplain Dan Langerock
This is one of the hardest things in life to accomplish. We have a large part of our lives invested in a person or company or relationship, and all of a sudden we are asked to do it all over again. Here are some instances when life throws us a curve:
· Death of a loved one—You loved someone for many years, then they passed away and you are asked to live alone for the first time in many years. You struggle with your grief besides the things your loved one used to do such
as cleaning the house, cooking, repairs, etc. You know you have to eat and yet you don’t want to eat alone.
· Job changes-- Whether you are retiring, your company is being downsized or ‘swallowed’ by another corporation, laid off with or without much
notice, it may seem like too much to take. You have given your loyalty to a company for many years and all of a sudden you don’t go to work everyday like you used to, and you may feel lost like a ship without an anchor.
· Divorce—You loved someone and you thought it would last your whole life, but it didn’t. You are separated by space where there was none before. You may not get to see your children as often as you’d like. You may still love
that person, but they are not there anymore to share your life with.
· Health changes-- You tried so hard to keep your loved one at home with you until the very last, and now you may feel guilty because they had to get other care perhaps in a nursing or boarding home. You go to see them once a day
or as often as you can, but it is just not the same. Why does life seem so unfair? God sees what you are going through in your life, and He knows you are having a tough time adjusting to whatever changes are coming your way in life. He loves you very much and He wants to help you and comfort you, but you must make that choice to allow Him to do so. Here is a poem you can keep to help remind you that God cares deeply about you:
Start Over
Author Unknown
When you've trusted Jesus and walked His way
When you've felt His hand lead you day by day
But your steps now take you another way,
Start Over!
When you've made your plans and they've gone awry
When you've tried your best and there's no more try
When you've failed yourself and you don't know why,
Start Over!
When you've told your friends what you plan to do
When you've trusted them and they didn't come through
And now you're all alone and it's up to you,
Start Over!
When you've failed your kids and they're grown and gone
When you've done your best but it's turned out wrong;
And now your grandchildren have come along,
Start Over!
When you've prayed to God so you'll know His will
When you've prayed and prayed and you don't know still
When you want to stop cause you've had your fill,
Start Over!
When you think you're finished and want to quit
When you've bottomed out in life's deepest pit
When you've tried and tried to get out of it,
Start Over!
When the year has been long and successes few
When December comes and you're feeling blue
God Gives a January just for you,
Start Over!
It will take courage to begin again, but you will not be alone. God will
be as close to you as you want Him to be. It may not be easy, but He will
be there to comfort and guide you every step of the way. Remember: God
Loves You!
