Have you ever seen this bumper sticker, "Don't follow me -- I'm lost."
I should hope that someone just leaving church wouldn't have that
bumper sticker.

Business trucks often have interesting slogans painted on them. Just
the other day I was behind a truck for a company that installs lawn
irrigation systems. Their slogan read: "We specialize in irrigation, not
irritation," indicating that they provided satisfaction.

Our churches should have the slogan: "We provide inspiration, not
irritation." You should leave a church feeling built-up, not beat-up --
encouraged, not discouraged. You should leave feeling positive about
your relationship to God. You should leave feeling like you were in the
very presence of God, because you were.

Certainly, there are also times when we need to be confronted with our
sin and need for repentance, but to hear that every service can stunt our
spiritual growth. In Psalm 95, David mentions both praise and
confession. Vss. 1 & 2: "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord: let us
shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with
thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Vss. 6 & 7: "Come,
let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for
He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under
His care. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts..."
These verses offer a good pattern for our worship.
