Mama and I used to talk til way past dark
We laughed hand in hand
Shared secrets heart to heart
I love you so very much she said
As she pulled the covers to my chin
and kissed me gently upon my head
But still, she just couldn't stay
She packed her sweet love in a suitcase
Then she just went away
You, who never said you loved me, stayed
Through the darkness when I was so afraid
You gave me all of which you were capable
An enduring presence, rock steady and stable
No, you never tucked me in bed
Never kissed me upon my head
Never sang me a song
Never talked for long
Yet you saw me through it
And although you never said you loved me
Finally, I knew it

Brenda, I like the poem. I take it is about your father, and even though he didn't say I love you, he let his actions speak for him. It is very moving. Your poem reminds me of my grandfather. I can never remember him telling me he loved me, but I too knew that he did because his actions told me so. Thank you for such a moving poem.
A very moving poem...thanks for sharing it! - Jay Cookingham
That was a nice poem :)
"You gave me all which were capable." I think I understand what you are trying to say? I've had this experience so it really blessed me. Thank you.
