Every day is a God day
Monday morning and we hit the ground running, or rather stumbling. Someone has left toothpaste all over the sink, the kids are squabbling over which kids’ cartoon to watch on early morning television and to top it all the toast is burning and it has set off the smoke alarm – which you can’t get stopped, of course.
Sound familiar? Everybody has their off-days but when you get a run of off-days, you begin to wonder if there were ever any on-days in your life. So where does “the peace that passes all understanding” fit into this common scenario? The answer is simple: right there in the middle of it all with its sleeves rolled up.
Sensing the presence of God is something we can do in any situation. It takes two things – priority and practice. If we prioritise our relationship with the Lord, then we will more readily be able to turn to Him in our daily lives. A simple practise is to, when we wake up, pray something like, “Lord, I want to dedicate this day to you. Be it good or ugly, help me to keep my mind focussed and my spirit right with You.”
Another thing we can do is to apply the Word. Take a verse for the week. Live with it and apply it to your life. For example, over these past few days I’ve been meditating on the verse in Romans 8:28 “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.” Just insert the word “He” in around the start of that verse. That would change it to, “We know that He works all things together for good”. This is the active form of the phrase. Now add to that the fact that He loves us. This is what you’ve got now: God loves us and He is constantly working out all things for our good. Or in other words, we begin to get a sense of His peace. We know that our loving Father is sovereignly working in us, and around us.
So let the bad days come - and the good days! If every day is a God day, we will know the Shalom peace of God.
