Journeying With A Friend

I have a journey to take
The journey of my life
I can't walk this highway alone
So my friend I will take
He promised to walk with me
To guide and help me
He said he would comfort me
And help to ease my burdens
Yes I have a journey to take
To heaven's gate I want to go
For I was promised life eternal
When my friend offered his self for my sins
There on an old rugged cross
On a hill called Mount Calvary
He laid down his life for me
That my soul might be saved
And on this journey I am traveling
The roads my not be paved
And my load my be heavy
But my friend promised to share them
I need his mercy and grace
I need his calm assurance
And his warm embrace
This journey may be long
Or short I don't know which
I may not know where the path my lead
But I trust that with my friend
I will safely get to where I am going
For he promised he would guide me
And give me strength to face each day
My friend and I are on this journey
I thank him for each new everyday
As by my side he stands
Easing all my fears and sorrows
Loving me each step along the way
See I have this journey to travel
A journey that will lead me homeward
To heaven where the father reigns
There I will live eternal
Walking the streets of gold
And at the end of my journey
I will find peace and sweet rest.
