God’ Carries Us on His Heart
~And thou shalt make the breastplate. And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.
And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.
And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.
And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and jasper: they shall be set in gold in their enclosings.
And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes~
A magnificent portrayal of the love of God, for His children we have in these verses.
The high priest, who is a figure in the old testament of our great high priest, Jesus, was to wear a breastplate while performing the office of high priest on behalf of the people.
The breastplate was a breastplate of judgment containing twelve stones, which were actually brilliant jewels.
The twelve stones represented the twelve tribes of Israel. Each stone, which represented one of the tribes, had a name. That name was to be placed with the stone like the engravings of a signet. In Biblical times the engraving of a signet was well known. It meant a stamp of identification of ownership or the official engraving of the one who owned the ring placing His seal of approval upon a document. It was the identification of a king or the one who put his signature through the stamping of his ring onto that which he approved of. How tender that the high priest, who represented Jesus, had a precious stone, each with its own name carried upon that breastplate of judgment! It represented Jesus carrying us upon His heart to the Father after our sins had been judged on the cross.
The breastplate means in the Hebrew, “shimmer”. How glorious it must have been with the precious jewels radiating their beauty, especially when the light shone on them.
It was worn over the heart of the high priest. The heart representing the feelings or emotions, especially love, was the most precious place it could be. How close it was to Aaron’s heart when he went into the most Holy Place to minister on behalf of the Israeli people before God.
Jesus, as our great High Priest in the Heavens, wears a breastplate of love upon His heart. Upon His breastplate are beautiful, precious jewels. His children are those precious jewels, which He carries as close as possible. As we are carried upon His heart, He can hear our cries of pain and sorrow. He can feel our fears and doubts. And He can experience our peace and joy, our love and adoration that we have toward Him.
For the believer, we are forever a precious jewel, carried upon His heart. No one can separate us from His love. So close to Him we are, our heart and His beat together as one as we go before the Heavenly Father and He reminds the Father that He died for us so that we might live forever with Him.
