Our Foundation Is In Christ
By Deline Tan
What is life’s one foundation that we need to build on? Some may say security, money, good family, steady job, positions, and even a decent house. What is your estimate of a good foundational ground that will promise us blessings and security beyond measure?
People are craving for attention; be it good looks with beautiful face, or status in life. The beauty parlors are saturating all over the place. Both men and women are looking for the perfect looks that they desire by altering their features if they think they do not have a sharp nose or double-lid eyes; or perhaps they don’t like the shape of their face and choose to go for plastic surgery.
Whatever one’s reason for altering her/his looks, we need to look into scriptures and realize that we are created in God’s image. Many people don’t like themselves, either they are too tall or short, or whether they are too fat or skinny, whatever their reasons, they loath and hate themselves for who they are.
I know a friend who hates her father because of his comments about the pimples on her face. People can develop hatred just because others do not appreciate their looks and bear unforgiveness towards them because of deep hurts due to their own dislikes for their looks. People do all kinds of things to look good. Ultimately we must remember who we are. It is God who created us, and He is the designer of everything that we are. We must appreciate who we are and be thankful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, in everything give thanks. Yes, we are to give thanks to God in every circumstances. God is pleased if we allow Him to be God and we simply receive whatever that He has for us. We give thanks for who God is and not what we can get out of Him. We honor Him because He is God.
Our security in life is not what we can obtain from this life, but rather we live to please God. Our foundation should be the rock of Christ, His Word, and what we are in Him. This is what will stand in our lives. Yes, God’s Word and our relationship with Him. Everything else pales away because without building our lives on the rock of Christ, we are just like the non-believers, living our own lives and having our own agendas. We must learn to accept ourselves and let God be the center of our lives.
Whatever dreams or desires that we have, we must learn to submit them to Him. With whatever little that we have, we can place it at the altar of God and give our lives to Him. We will be surprised at what He will do with the little that we have. Just like the five loaves and two fishes that the boy gave to Jesus, He can multiply it many folds. The question is, will we give whatever that we have to Him? “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” John 12:24 (NKJ). Yes, we must be willing to die before we can live for Christ.
Use whatever you have and multiply it for Christ. Accept your nose, eyes, face and every of your features that God has created. We must be proud of our Heavenly Father for creating us to be who we are. We must give Him honor and praise, and we must be thankful.
