Beep Beep Beep
I roll over and stare at the clock and it glares 6:00 AM at me. Sighing I roll onto my back and stare at the ceiling. 'Oh Heavenly Father, I am going to give my day to you Father. Thank you for my many blessings. Please help me to make wise food choices today and to show your love and grace to everyone. Father, help me to be kind and not yell . . . ‘.
“Mommy, Mommy is it morning yet,” echoes through the house interrupting my prayer time.
“Yes, Tori it is morning, but you do not have to get up yet,” I reply.
'Father, please let her go back to sleep so I can continue my quiet time. As I was saying Father, please help me to be a kind mother and not yell like I did yesterday and the day before that. Father, with my husband gone for so long I am having a difficult time not yelling. I just get so . . . ‘.
“Mommy, mommy,” my son starts crying. Frustrated I crawl out of bed and go to his room.
I leave the peace of God in my bed and take my bad attitude into his room. “What is it Corbin?”
“I want you, mommy” he says as I pick him up. Snuggling with him on his bed, I begin to pray again.
‘ frustrated. I just get so frustrated with the kids these days. It seems that I cannot take a breath without one of them needing something. I know this house kids are suppose to be, but sometimes I would like five minutes of solitude. I just need your help Father to make it through today. Father . . . ‘.
“Mommy, what are you doin?” my son asks.
“Corbin, mommy is praying now be quiet.” I reply.
'Father, Thank you for this precious baby . . .’
“Are you talking 'bout me mommy? He asks.
“Yes, Corbin but please be quiet.”
'Father, just let me get through the next few minutes without being frustrated and then I will check in with you later for the minutes after that. Amen’.
“Mommy, why do you say Father?”
”Mommy is talking to God honey, Mommy calls God, Father. Now be quiet while I finish.”
I began to realize that day by day is too overwhelming. I have learned to take it minute by minute. If I can make it through this minute then I can get through the next. Sometimes the minutes are too long and I have to take it second by second.
“Mommy, will daddy call today?” my daughter asks me coming into my son's room.
“ I am not sure Tori, but daddy will call when he can.”
“ I wish daddy would come home. He has been gone too long.”
“I know Tori I wish daddy would come home to, but we are halfway there.”
I stand up with a smile and a good attitude and say, “time to start our day. Everyone get up and get dressed.”
I head into the kitchen to start the coffee and make the kids some breakfast. Staring out at the early morning light as my coffee brews I begin to pray again. 'Father, please keep my husband safe. Amen' This was such simple prayer but with so much meaning I thought to myself. My heart seemed to beat faster for a moment as I thought of him I was both proud and scared all at once. He was so far away and it had been about two weeks since we had spoken. I stood there a moment and though of him. Although, I liked the green Army uniform better, I imagined he was just as handsome this morning in his dessert one.
I pick up my bible and read Psalm 91. This verse has become the mantra for my bible study group. We all agreed to pray it daily for our soldiers deployed. I know in my heart that the ladies of this organization have helped me to grow in my Christian walk. Without their love and support the past few month without my husband would have been unbearable. The word mommy busts through my thoughts as my children run to the kitchen to get their breakfast.
Later that evening after the kids were in bed, I sit relaxing.
The phone rings.
With a sigh, I pick up the phone. There is a delay and I instantly know that it is my husband.
“Hey honey, I sure do miss you,” I say to him.
With a tear in my eye, I hang up the phone full of love and pride. I know I can make it until the next phone call whenever that may be. He is safe and I know God will continue to watch over him.
I think to myself today was a good day, I did not yell at the kids and I have to talk to my husband. We made it through today with the peace and grace of God. I am glad that he will be their tomorrow with me also.
'Father, thank you for keeping my husband safe and allowing him to call me. Father, thank you for always being there and meeting my needs. Thank you for helping me makes it through today without being a “mean mommy.” It is only through your grace that I was able to make it through. Amen.'

Tammie, I have thought of you and your family often, wondering if your husband was sent "over there." What a wonderful article; emotional and thoughtful. Thanks for the reminder that we need to cover our men and women in the services, (it was my little boy) but also their families that go through non routine days as though they are. Love ya, Storm
