AT THE HOUSE OF THE LORD



God’s people are called to be Holy; we are to be salt and light to this world. Unfortunately, many Christian’s are oblivious to the role they are called to play; as a result they lay dormant in their positions in the kingdom of God.



Do you remember Israel? God formed physical Israel in the time of Moses but spiritual Israel lives today in us Christians the disciples of the son God. Just as Physical Israel continued to wander and perish in the wilderness, so do the people of God today. WHY? The answer is not far it lies in the pages of the Old Testament. Israel’s early wanderings in the wilderness resulted because of their stiff nakedness and unfaithfulness to God.



Picture Israel fresh out of bondage waiting on Moses while he is on the mount getting the word from God himself. Keep in mind this is the same God who just delivered them with his mighty hand from the chains of oppression in Egypt. The same God who parted the Red Sea and prepared a way where there was no way; the same God who heard their cries while still in bondage and remembered his word given to their forefathers.



Ok now that we have the picture lets get back to the story. Moses is up on the Mount getting special instructions while Israel is expected to wait patiently for him to return. As the story goes Israel grew impatient and as a result they decided to forsake the promises of God and turning and leaning on their own wisdom and understanding.



So often we are able to see the mistakes of others while being totally oblivious to our shortcoming, this being the case lets examine Israel and maybe just maybe we might see ourselves along the way.



·Bondage in Egypt (People dead in sin)



·God’s call to Moses (God calls us giving us and opportunity to answer him)



·God reveals his plan to deliver Israel from bondage (Christ Jesus is God’s redemptive plan to deliver us from bondage and bring us in a right relationship with him)



·God’s spirit guiding Israel out of Egypt across the Red Sea and into the Promised Land (Once we accept God’s son we are given the Holy Spirit as a guiding light to bear witness to the truth; Christ Jesus. If allowed the Holy Spirit leads us out of sin and destructive behavior into righteousness and life)



·Deliverance; Israel is set free from bondage in Egypt. (Acceptance of Christ sets us free from the bondage of sin and death)



·Moses goes up to the mountain after being delivered to receive instruction for living, this takes time, patience, dedication, diligence and submission (We are suppose to seek God’s instruction and direction by being patient, spending time in his presence, reading his word and being totally submitted to his will)



Israel was out of Egypt but Egypt was alive and well in Israel, they were happy to be delivered yet torn between what they have known (flesh) and where they were going (spirit). The reality was that Israel’s heart was not totally submitted and committed to the Lord. Israel was free indeed yet in this freedom they remained mentally enslaved being held captive by their minds.



Some character flaws of Israel:



Doubt, unbelief, unfaithfulness, ungratefulness, selfishness, lust, greed, forgetfulness, folly, stiff-necked, stubborn, hardened hearts, murmuring & complaining, lovers of Idolatry, sexual immorality



Israel’s folly:



Israel saw the mighty hand of God in action, they saw him move and humble the most arrogant and prideful of people Pharaoh. They were delivered from the most oppressive unbearable situation and circumstance. God led them, protected them, fed them and delivered them, yet through all of this Israel’s faith was small they still did not believe that God was and is all he said he is.



Sounds familiar? Stop and meditate on these things



The bible tells us that much of Israel perished in the desert after being delivered from Egypt. For 40 years Israel remained in the desert on a trip that should have been a few days journey.



Why?



Please don’t count this as just a story in the bible that happened thousands of years ago, the bible the word of God is living, breathing and moving.



Physical Israel is speaking to you and I. Christian’s we are representative of present day Spiritual Israel. This is a reality check Israel’s experience in the wilderness shows us that a person can be saved and delivered from bondage yet still be perishing.



HOW? WHY?



The bible gives the reason why the people perish and in a word it is IGNORANCE. Christians are ignorant of their entitlement their inheritance by Christ Jesus. After our deliverance there is a process in order to get to the Promised Land, unavoidably we have to go through the wilderness. In the wilderness we are to diligently seek God, obey him and adhere to his will. Our productivity and growth towards our promised land comes from the quality of time we spend in the presence of God.



Reality check, God’s people are walking in darkness unnecessarily. God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. Do you know this? Christians we are promised the blessing of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac. The price of sin and death has been paid for by the ultimate sacrifice; God’s only son Christ Jesus. Accept him and you can receive the promises of God.



The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, to fear him is to know him, to know him is to spend time in his presence, to spend time in his presence is to read his word and listen to his voice. To hear God’s voice continuously we must submit to the Lordship of Christ Jesus. Walk in the will and the way of the Lord and there you and I as the children of God will find peace, blessings and life.



Wake up and stop sleeping in death arise and walk in life and liberty.
