My heart lies within a surrounding darkness
My eyes strain to find the light
My soul is lost with no power
My body weary from the fight

Hope fades
Anger mounts
Passion dies
Loneliness pursues

Who is there to hear my cries?
Who is there to calm my pain?
And when it hurts to show my smile,
Who is there to tell me I’m sane?

Pour it all upon the Lord
Many times I’ve been told
Allowing Him to touch my heart
And placing it within His hold

Praise Him through my times of pain
Those times I feel alone
Praise Him though my soul is tired
And yearns to go home

It’s not that my life is all full of turmoil
And persecution comes without yield
Not even is my life near desolation
Stepping the wrong way won’t get me killed

My life is merely within a battle
Fought in a realm of higher state
A war between conflicting spirits
A war between love and hate

I’ve been along this road before
And every time, though I pass the test
Is unrelenting with new strategies
And never do I get a rest

And though I know this place I’m in
And though I know how to fight
I feel tired and alone and crushed
And my eyes can’t see His light

But as I sit and feel the silence
As I let my body fall
As I am filled with discouragement
I hear His whispered call

Renew my mind with the Word
Believe it when it says
Perfect love casts out fear
Boldness within all crisis

I do know that my Father loves me
It rests within my heart
And though I wrestle with the truth
The family of God I shall not part

Not truly alone will I ever be
As long as God is by my side
For it is within His sheltered hope
That I forever abide.
