The Aroma of Christ

We are to God the aroma of Christ
Diffusing His saving scent faithfully
The price He paid upon the cross sufficed
Entrusted are we with this mystery
He Himself leads us forth to victory
Thus we proclaim Him boldly, unashamed
Hearts aflame, we give glory to His Name

We are a dreadful smell of death and doom
To those who are stiff-necked and perishing
Their judgment and destruction swiftly loom
While their vile and foul deeds are flourishing
Yet our words and works are enlightening
A fragrance of life to those being saved
Who walk the road to redemption Christ paved

This poem handles 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 with real care. The contrast between “fragrance of life” and “smell of death” is the heart of Paul’s text, and you keep that tension instead of softening it. “The price He paid upon the cross sufficed” is a strong gospel line.

One small polish: “Hearts aflamed” would read more naturally as “Hearts aflame.” A couple of the middle rhymes feel a little packed; giving one line more breathing room would help the meter.

You leave the reader with both courage and warning, which is exactly what that passage is for. Thank you for proclaiming Christ unashamed.
