A Word from God

“We do not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet; nor is there any among us who knows how long.” “For God is my King from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of sea serpents in the waters. You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, and gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness. You broke open the foundation and the flood; You dried up mighty rivers. The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun. You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.” “Oh, do not let the oppressed return ashamed ! Let the poor and needy praise Your name.” Psalm 74:9,12-17, 21

The previous eight verses of this psalm is an account of the LORD’s land and the LORD’s people being under siege ,“the enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary, Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place.” vs.3b,4a What desolation surrounded His redeemed.

They looked for signs from heaven but there were none and the prophets that relayed to them the will and way of the LORD were gone. They grieved the absence of a word from God. All that is left for them was to plead to God, who is King over all regardless of what state His creation be in.

There was strength and mercy available if they but looked in the right direction for it. They had known His power and knew that it had not weakened, so asked for a display of it once more for their preservation and glory.

Because I have a word from God (the Bible that I hold in my hand) in whatever situation I find myself, may I not neglect to treasure that word so graciously given, by His grace and for His glory.
