A Brother and His Mother in India Need Our Help!

I have known Stanley Mathai for about seven years now through this wonderful little ministry our Lord has given us. I have found him to be a man of high integrity, who loves the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and who cares deeply for his mother who he has lovingly taken care of for many years. Stanley and his mother have given me great joy throughout the years and I consider Stanley to not only be my beloved brother in the Lord and a faithful witness for Him, but a wonderful soul who I am thankful to the Lord to be able to call him my friend.

Stanley’s mother is also a treasured Saint, unsurpassed in her fervent love for her Lord and for others.

Recently, Stanley’s mother had wandered away from their apartment and Stanely was desperately trying to find her. To make a long story short, the police had found her and taken her to the station until they could locate Stanley and have him pick her up. Do you know what this precious sister in the Lord was doing from the time the police found her and took her to the station until Stanley was able to pick her up? Well, she was sharing the Lord Jesus Christ with everyone she came into contact with, of course! Now, mind you, this is in predominately Hindu and Muslim India, but she has no fear for she knows she serves the living God and His eternal Son, Jesus Christ, who died for her sins and is seated at the right hand of the Father!

I really do love and appreciate these two amazing children of God!

Here is Stanley’s humble request to the precious body of Christ.

Hello Brothers and Sisters!!

My name is Stanley Mathai.  I'm from Ahmedabad, a city located in the state of Gujarat, India. I am 57 years old (unmarried) and taking care of my 86 years old mother, Mrs. Shanta Mathai. In the year 2003, my father died by a sudden cardiac arrest without any known medical condition. He was 71 at that time. Since than I have taken care of my mother, whom I love dearly.

Born in a Christian family, just as Timothy in the Bible, I have been blessed to received genuine Christian values and Biblical teachings from my wonderful parents. Since childhood I have never doubted about my faith in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. My parents opened our house for Bible teachings and we had Sunday school classes at our home. Many non-Christian children attended the Sunday school and many of them, now much older, remember my parents very fondly and are very thankful for the teachings they received in their childhood. I have also shared my faith to many thousands since I was in was in my 20's. 

The last 25 years I have been working with my local Church with computer work and also with other Christian church libraries to maintain their records. My life has revolved around serving the Church and taking care of my elderly mother for the last 25 years with around 30-40 hospital visits for her different medical conditions. 

The last few years have been very difficult years for me in my life. For the last 5 years I have shared my situation with my dear brother Mark and he is well aware of my living condition.

But now, I find myself humbly sharing my living condition with all my brothers and Sister in Christ. I live in a 10-story building that is almost 50 years old. It was built in the year 1967. For the last few years, we have received numerous notices from the local municipal corporation to abandon the building due to high risk of property damage or loss and also the high potential for the loss of human lives.

This same building, where me and my mother live, was severely damaged during the Gujarat 2001 earthquake. At that time, management was able to restructure and took the necessary steps to repair the building. But now the pillars and the beams are almost rotten and it is very dangerous to dwell safely in the building. I honestly fear for our lives if we were to live here much longer. This is why I have taken this drastic step.

I have shared this information with my dear brother Mark and he has encouraged me to openly write this letter to my brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. I am not exactly sure how to put this request for help into words to all of you, but I hereby prayerfully let my request be known to all of you who are able to donate funds to me and my mother, and help me financially, so that I can search for housing in the area where we live and buy a small house so me and my mother will have a safe place to live. My mother and me, along with the other unfortunate members of our complex, will be forced to vacate the building in the very near future. 

May my request on behalf of my mother and myself reach the hearts of my brothers and sisters around the world and also to the throne room of our eternal Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I humbly stretch out my hands towards my fellow brothers and sisters for financial help in this desperate situation we find ourselves. 

From the bottom of my heart and in hopeful anticipation of the outpouring of love and financial support from the body of Christ, I thank you all for walking this difficult road with us, helping us financially to buy a small home for me and my mother, and for keeping me and my mother in your powerful and loving prayers.

Emergency Situation!

On August 5^th, 2026 - while Stanley was busy trying to get a bank account that might receive the donated funds from his brothers and sister to help him and his mother, and attempting to navigate all of the legalities in India for such an endeavor - Stanley and the others who live in his building received the following notice (translated to English):

You are hereby informed that you are in possession of the aforementioned block/flat/premises situated at Ayan Co-op. Hsg. Soc. Ltd. (Royal Apartment)—located on the land bearing C.T. Survey No. 34215/A within the Shahpur-3 village site area under the jurisdiction of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Central Zone. A notice regarding this building has been issued under Section 264 of the GPMC Act on 16/06/2026 or 19/06/2026.

No effective action has been taken by you regarding the notice issued; the building has become dangerously dilapidated due to age. As it poses a risk to the building's owners, occupants, and the general public—carrying a potential threat of loss of life, damage to property, and accidents—and given the risk of damage to surrounding properties or accidents arising from the said Ayan Co-op. Housing Society Ltd. (Royal Apartment), the use of the said property must be discontinued.

Therefore, in accordance with Section 268(1)(c) of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, you are hereby directed to cease the use of the said dangerous and dilapidated property and vacate the building within 10 (ten) days of receiving this notice.

If this notice is not complied with within the aforementioned period, the use of the said building will be stopped through police intervention and the occupant(s) will be evicted, in accordance with the provisions of Section 268(5) of the said Act; all costs incurred in this process will be recovered from you. Please take serious note of this.

Stanley and his mother had ten days to vacate their apartment! Here is what has transpired since then.

On August 11^th, 2026, the tenants in Stanley’s building were given 15 extra days to vacate their apartments. As would be expected, Stanley is doing everything he can to find appropriate temporary shelter for his mother and himself, though this is extremely difficult in India, which is the most populated country in the world.

Our Humble Petition to the Body of Christ on Behalf of Stanley and His Mother

Stanley and his mother would obviously change their circumstances if they could. However, they have no ability to change those circumstances and they have humbly asked the body of Christ if they would be willing to help them.

Stanley’s love for his mother is a wonderful thing to behold – the chief characteristic of a godly man, that he would care for and love his aging mother, devoting his life to her as I am sure she has devoted her life to him. This love is palpable and glorious to behold.

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, would you please not only consider, but be mightily guided and led by Christ’s wonderful Holy Spirit, to donate to their dire situation? No amount is too little, for it is with the heart that one gives and “God loveth a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7) and Jesus said that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

“The liberal [generous] soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.” – Proverbs 11:25

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” – Luke 6:38

And, of course, we eagerly desire for you to lift them and this situation up to God’s throne room of grace in the process, asking our Lord to give them His love, His peace, His joy, and His comfort, as they humbly petition the body of Christ for their dire predicament.

I need not remind you, dear Saint, of what the Apostle James said, “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:15-17); and the Apostle John’s admonition, “But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” – 1 John 3:17

No. As believers in Jesus Christ, there is no need for these Scriptural reminders, for I am so persuaded in you all, my dear brothers and sisters, and I am so eager to see the outpouring of agape love and charity towards these two wonderful Saints who so desperately need our help. I am confident that we are going to see the mighty arm of God moving within the hearts and actions of His children that will encourage us all - whether we see the outcome or not - as we, through Christ, store up for ourselves treasures in heaven and heavenly crowns and rewards out of our fervent love for Jesus and everything He has done for us, saving us with His lovingkindness and mercy.
