FRUIT (Matthew 7:15-20)

A Tree grows strong roots spread deep and wide,
The canopy is thick in which much life resides.
Healthy and shady it stands on the Earth,
Tall with broad Branches and Trunk of large girth.

In the right time and season the Flowers arrive,
Fragrant and lovely, the Tree blossoms and thrives.
At the right point in time its fruit starts to grow,
Starting out small and green with a long way to go.

But as they develop so does their colour and vigour,
They swell with juice and flesh, of course getting bigger.
Maturing up nicely to finally fall to the ground,
Many snapped up for use by People around.

But not all are taken and they slowly break down,
Their Seeds germinate in the soil around town.
New shoots appear, the start of a new Tree,
The beauty of Nature as God intended it to be.

So too is the Christian, standing strong in the Lord,
The Word and relationship with Jesus is their reward.
Different from many others by speech, care and love,
The Holy Spirit in-dwelling, imbued from above.

Their gifts become evident at exactly the right time,
God given attributes even this humble rhyme.
The Fruit of the Spirit meant to shine to all others,
God’s plan to light the world, edifying sisters and brothers.

So let your Fruit fall my fellow Christian Trees,
Keep your roots of The Word strong and free from disease.
Let your Fruit be displayed and not hidden away,
Until the Lord Jesus returns on that great day.
