Romans 7:19-25 (KJV) For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

If I were to leave you with a word on today, it would simply be: your problem is the flesh, my problem is the flesh.
This word is not just for the hearer, it's for the speaker himself.

When we first come to Christ, we're on fire for the Lord. We come to church and Bible study religiously. We tell people about our Christian experience and even invite them to come to church. We go to prayer meetings, fast and give tithes and offerings. After a while, we begin to cool down. We don't pray as we use to. We don't go to church as we did previously. We stop fasting and reading the word, and we make excuses for not giving in the offerings. Something has changed.

If you look over your life, you will discover that the majority if not all of your problems, were a result of your own flesh. The lack of discipline, the lack of self control are the results of your flesh. They were the result of my flesh. The works of the flesh preludes many problems that we see today.

Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) tells us about the works of the flesh. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

There is not one human being on planet earth or who walked the earth apart from Jesus Christ who is not guilty of the works of the flesh.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we have to be very mindful of the flesh and that's where the challenge comes in.

There was a time when I believed that serving God was really difficult, but in reality, serving God wasn't difficult, the problem was my flesh. If we're honest with ourselves, serving God is not grevious. It only becomes a grieve when the flesh gets in the way.

We cannot walk in the flesh and walk in the spirit at the same time. It's gonna be one or the other. The Apostle Paul informed us to crucify the flesh and the effections thereof because in this flesh, dwelleth no good thing.

The problem is that we're trying to find a good thing in the flesh, but the flesh is very deceptive and cannot co-exist with the spirit.

Jesus said in John 6:63 (KJV) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Have you ever been at war with your flesh? Have you ever been through trials and tribulations with your flesh? Have you ever thought you couldn't escape the bondage of your flesh? Have you ever wondered how you were going to be delivered from your flesh?

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Jesus Christ is our deliverer, Jesus Christ is our savior, Jesus Christ is our redeemer, and He is the way, the truth and the life.

The Apostle Paul says, But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

The flesh is like a well oiled machine that has sensors built into it. The sensors are attracted to that which is evil and repels that which is good. Even though we would do good, our tendency is to do evil. Hence, evil is present with us.

When we backslide on God, it's not God's fault, the problem is the flesh. If the Pastor says something you don't like, it's not the Pastor's fault, the problem is your flesh. When someone stares at you and now you want to fight, the problem is your flesh.

When you go to the doctor and he tells you to watch your diet and exercise because your blood sugar and blood pressure is too high, it's not the doctor's fault, it's your flesh(stop rebuking the doctor).

We have to develop thick skin in the spirit, to combat the thick skin of the flesh. The truth of the matter is that we all know what we need to do in order to live this life through Jesus Christ. The problem is that deep down we don't really want to commit 100%. One foot in God, one foot in the world, but that never works out.

While it is always convenient and easy to blame someone or something else for our reactions, the end result is how we respond. Will we respond in the flesh or respond in the spirit. The solution is of the spirit because it glorifies God, is rooted in love and creates a win-win situation. The problem is in the flesh because it is devilish, and either steals, kills or destroys.

Galatians 5:16-17 says: Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fullfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

In closing, many of the problems that we face can attributed to the flesh. In order to live this life, we need faith, self control and vigilance. If even one of these three things are missing, we will fall to the perils of the flesh. That is why we need to thank and praise God for His grace and Jesus Christ.

The problem is the flesh. Amen.

Good message Calvin. The flesh is our biggest issue and we are supposed to see it as crucified and dead as God does already. Walking in the Spirit is the only way to defeat it, kind of like acting like our flesh no longer exists. I think carrying our cross daily is to remind ourselves that it is dead. Good message.
