“Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men. He turned the sea into dry land; they went through the river on foot. There we will rejoice in Him. He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations; do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah Psalms 66:5-7

An invitation is given by the psalmist to come and see the works of God and in the seeing it has to be declared that He is awesome in what He does as regards those He created. He is not a Maker, aloof, distant and unconcerned by is engaged in the activities that carry His people on from day to day.

Remembered by the psalmist are the miraculous passages through the mountainous waters of the Red Sea and safe passage through the Jordan River; both at the hand of their saving God.

On the banks, after the passing over, there was rejoicing and the acknowledgement of a deliverance that only He could have initiated and executed perfectly. In this recollection would come fresh courage to journey on.

He rules by power, contested maybe, but never overthrown. This power is not only for the moment’s need but reaches into eternity.

The psalmist would not have us think for a moment that He does not see in the minutest detail, all that is going on in and around nations. (Look up Canada! God is watching.) No motion of aggression is missed, no hint of rebellion is ignored. Those who exalt themselves have His constraining power upon them.

Because I have experienced gracious deliverance because of His works being manifested in my life, I praise Him. In bringing them to mind I am assured that there will never be a “Red Sea” or “Jordan” where He won’t be waiting at the bank for me, by His grace and for His glory.
