The three synoptic gospels speak of Simon of Cyrene carrying Jesus’ cross. Notice though that in Matthew and Mark the soldiers forced the man to carry the cross, while Luke says they put the cross on the man and made him carry it.

Initially our Lord carried the cross, but due to it’s weight, His badly beaten back, and His weakness caused by all He had endured since the prior evening, Simon of Cyrene needed to be pressed into carrying the cross out to Golgotha.

Jesus tells us, His followers, just as He carried His cross, Simon is the first to then carry the cross, and we too must carry our cross. Though we carry the cross of our burdens, the Lord walks beside us. He is with you. Never forget this as you are led to the cross.
