Matthew 18:21-35 (KJV) Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
I want to talk about the heart of asking and receiving forgiveness.
Forgiveness is something that we all need, and forgiving is something that we all need to be. As believers in Christ, we still encounter conflicts. These disputes can occur in marriages, relationships, and in the workplace. As children of God, we must become the bigger person. As difficult as it may be, God requires us to walk in forgiveness. While walking in forgiveness is important, equally imperative is asking for forgiveness.
As Christians, we must ask the Lord Jesus to forgive us of our sin daily. This is because we battle with sin through actions and in thought.
As a believer, I haven't been a stranger to sin. I've fallen short many times of the glory of God. However, every time I fell, it was the grace and mercies of God that allowed me to rise again. That was only possible by asking for forgiveness.
God will save you if you want to be saved. God will deliver you if you want to be delivered. God will forgive you if you want to be forgiven.
We must humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God because it is the hand of God that reached down and saved us from a life of eternal damnation. God didn't have to forgive me, but he did. God didn't have to forgive you, but he did. If it wasn't for the grace, mercy, and forgiveness of God, where would humanity be?
Humanity would be lost for eternity, disqualified from being pardoned for transgressions. I believe a reason why the devil is angry and hates the human race is because we can be forgiven and he can not. The Bible calls him the accuser of the brethren. He accuses God's people of their sins night and day. As long as we have the heart to ask for forgiveness, we can be forgiven because the Lord's mercies are renewed daily.

You have to be willing to forgive people for their offenses unlimitedly. There are people who haven't spoken to family members in decades because of what was said or done. Unforgiveness poisons the heart. It is like a weed that spreads in a yard. Regardless of what was said or done, someone's got to be the bigger person.
When you forgive someone from your heart, you release healing for yourself and the other individual. That's why sound counseling is important. Jesus is the wonderful counselor.
One of the greatest things that you can do for yourself is forgive. Perhaps you made decisions that cost you time, money, or relationships. Regardless of what happened, you can be forgiven.
Never stop asking for forgiveness. If you're wrong and know you're wrong, ask for forgiveness. When you ask the Lord or your fellow man to pardon your sin, that helps to keep you under the grace and mercies of God. We have to live our lives from a position of humility.
In closing, admit from your heart, to the Lord Jesus that you're a sinner and ask him to forgive you for your sin. Tell him that you believe that he died for your sin and you will serve him the balance of your life in Jesus' name. Amen.
