Painful Correction

Did your parents correct you when you were a child?
Did they sometimes even smack you?
Whatever, no child ever sees parental correction as nice.

So what about our heavenly Father’s correction methods?
Have your desires and intentions sometimes got all messed up?
Has what you planned to do all go wrong?
Did something prevent you from going where you had hoped to go?
The catalogue of such disappointments is endless.
So is God in every such situation?

“‘My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.’
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?

“Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

It is not easy for any of us to accept difficulties as being experiences that our Father is using to make us better Christians, to make us more like Jesus.
Every time, we need to remember that ‘Whom the Lord loves He chastens!’
