“For the words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. The wicked prowl on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.” Psalm 12: 6-8

The purity of the words of the LORD is like the purity of silver when it is tried in the furnace to burn off all impurities. It comes to our willing ears in perfect purity straight from the mouth of a holiness that has no need of purification.

These words have been kept through all generations and will continue to be kept into eternity. They are kept only because of by Whom they are kept.

How precious these words were to the psalmist for he relied on them for his life and learning. He was aware of the encroaching evil around him but as the LORD kept His words, so also the LORD kept him who was relying on them. The keeping and preserving was of the LORD, therefore secure.

Because the words of the LORD are pure; may these “tried as silver” words havemy full attention. They are kept, by the LORD of this Word, for the benefit of His people, that they may know Him and endeavour to walk in obedience and joy , by His grace and for His glory.
