No Empty Seats In Heaven's Worship Service

I attend a large, non-denominational church with a sanctuary that can seat well over 1,000 people. Often, however, there are quite a few empty chairs during our services. I sometimes wonder what it would take for us to have overflow attendance. What type of spiritual hunger or desperation would fill our sanctuary every week?

The Lord welcomes all worship that comes to him from a sincere heart of affection and awe. Some churches or groups draw chiefly from the rich well of traditional hymns while others use contemporary songs and a band. The global body of Christ praises God in many languages and cultural styles. I served for a number of years with a large interdenominational, intercultural missionary training agency. Campus services often included staff and students from a wide variety of nations and languages. Celebrating that diversity in prayer and worship always touched a special place in my heart.

There is coming a worship service where no seat will be empty, an eternal worship service where people will participate with undivided attention and undistracted hearts, all focused on our majestic God. Revelation 19:6-7a says, “Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd . . . : ‘Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him.’” NLT

Revelation 7:9-10 also declares:

“After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb . . . And they were shouting with a great roar,

‘Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!’”

We may have our favorite expressions of worship here and may not always agree on what is the best form of praising God, but we can look forward with eager anticipation to that perfect, eternal worship that will far outshine the most beautiful music on earth.

PRAYER: Almighty, awesome God, help me to worship you today in spirit and in truth so that one day, I might worship you in eternity. Amen.

'No Empty Seats in Heaven's Worship Service' does just exactly what a devotional should do: Offer encouragement, point the reader to the Lord and His Word, and do it succinctly. After reading this short devotional, I was left with a feeling of hopeful anticipation as I reflected on the overwhelming joy and harmony that awaits us in Heaven's worship service- where there will be no empty seats!
