The Body

Yes, we cannot rely only on our eyes to see things around us, though our eyes play an important role to protect us from tripping over something, from being lied to, from all sorts of visible dangers in the world. Our hands and feet, our mouth and ears are all important. We take physical visible action by our hands and feet - our movements of the hand and feet demonstrate we are alive and working. When we extend a little kindness to our neighbours and friends, we don’t just use our mouth to say something nice. A real kindness to others always involves some visible action. People can actually feel and sense your loving and caring intention. Our mouth of course can say so many things, nice or bad things all coming out from the same mouth. Actions taken with a good intent means so much more to someone who is lonely and helpless. The Bible sternly warns us to be mindful of our mouth, ‘You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’ [Mathew 12:34] Here, we see that God cares more about our heart condition than anything else in us. Whatever we speak out of our mouth, the words we carry reflect our own thoughts and our thoughts are linked with the state of our heart condition. For example, when we have bitterness in our heart, the words we speak out of our mouth can taste bitter too. Just imagine how hard it is for you to rejoice when you feel so bitter in your heart. You can fake the smile but still your heart would honestly tell you how miserable and bitter you are. Jesus can detect fake sincerity easily, ‘These people draw near Me with their mouths and honour Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me.’ [Mathew 15:8] We can also taste the goodness of God by our mouth, just like tasting some delicious food out in a nice restaurant. Have you tasted His goodness lately? 

How about our ears - our listening to voices and noises in this world? We are totally human and we cannot avoid noises or voices around us every day. How’s your listening lately? Have you been hearing negative comments or positive ones? How was your reaction to that? The Bible reminds us that Satan is the author of ALL LIES, his expertise is therefore lying to people who belong to God and lying to people who do not know God. Have you been able to distinguish his lies with God’s truth? Are you able to detect his lies to you? Or have you taken his lies all in and think that it is the real you. Has Satan been condemning you and making you feel so useless and worthless? Can you turn your ears to the loving God who loves you so dearly today, switch off the condemning voices and noises. For the loving Father will not condemn those He loves. ‘Anyone who believes in Him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.’ [John 3:18] ‘There is therefore now, NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.’ [Romans 8:1]

We have now covered and mentioned most of our body parts. We can see that each body part has its own important role to play and we cannot live without any parts of it. You see some people are in wheelchairs due to some tragedies that happened to them, they lost their legs or their back was injured. They have to put up with a life of inconvenience. Without the ability to walk freely, they have to be extra careful when they go outside of their home. They might need someone to be with them at all times just in case they experience any unpredicted danger. Unlike those who can walk freely, they have no such concern or whatsoever. 

Let’s turn to the Body of Christ

The Church

The Church represents people of God - Church to you might just be a physical building but God’s people are alive and living out the will of God in the world. Since our God is alive and not dead, we as God’s people will also be ALIVE in the love of God. We shall not see the building as the Church every Sunday, knowing that we ourselves are the Church makes a whole lot of difference in the BODY. Look at your physical body for a while and you will see that all the parts of your body do play an important part, if any parts of your body suffer, other parts can suffer as well. ‘Church’ , which is you and me, represents God in this world. When the world sees and looks at us, they shall see God’s nature in you and in me. We are the people of God, who reflect the nature of God, either people perceive God as good or bad, they perceive that through the people of God. The Bible itself has described the love of God for the world so clearly, but the people of this world will only get the first taste and feel through those who believe in God. We are indeed the representative of God. We cannot and shall not take this role lightly. 

‘Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” [2 Corinthians 5:20] 

‘Pray for kings and others in power, so that we may live quiet and peaceful lives as we worship and honour God.’ [1 Timothy 2:2]

‘Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Chirst, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you; and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.’ [1 Corinthians 1:10]

‘Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other.’ [Romans 12:10]

‘So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.’ [John 13:34]

‘Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.’ [1 John 4:7]
