The food of angels
A thin wafer host.
A heavenly sustenance
In supernatural provision.
The food served by Abraham
A tender calf for a royal feast
Hosted at the oak in Mamre.
God and his two angels ate of this meal
When God himself visited his earth.
The food of the desert people
Honeyed wafer host.
Raining down from the open heavens
Sprinkled with the morning dew
An overabundance to last for years and years.
The food provided to Elijah
Bread brought by ravens in heavy drought time.
With bread his strength regained
He could flee from his enemies.
The food offered at Zarephath
Flour and oil in generous giving.
A dough that never ran out
That lasted through the famine and more.
The food of the mountain people
Barley loaves and fishes.
Multiplied over and over
To feed thousands and thousands.
The food at the last Supper
Bread broken and given
Body broken to be eaten.
The flesh of the Son of Man
To have a part in him forever.
The food of the world today
A thin veiled host.
Hidden in its purity
The real presence of Christ
To nourish, fill and revive us.
The food at the lavish banquet
Jesus himself will be the food.
The one time food for eternal life
Whoever eats of him will live forever.
