The Same Word

“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” Matthew 3:1, 2.
“From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’” Matthew 4:17.

John the Baptist and Jesus began their ministries with the same word.
Repent!
Why?
Because of sin.

They had both been sent by God the Father to address the world’s biggest problem.
Sin.
That problem began with mankind’s first disobedience in the Garden of Eden.
All today’s human problems are driven by disobedience to God’s commands.
Our modern world needs to hear that command very much indeed.
Repent!

We ourselves certainly can’t put the world to rights.
But is there anything at all we can do about it?
Yes! If we have been rescued from our own sin through the precious blood of Jesus, we can take the world’s problems to our Father in heaven.
We can cry out for the Holy Spirit to come and do his unique work.
Jesus told us what the Spirit’s work would be: “When he has come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” John 6:8.

So there is hope.
Praise the Lord!
Come, Holy Spirit!
